What are Wellness Centers

Eliminate Stigma

  • Public stigma involves the negative or discriminatory attitudes that others have about mental illness.
  • Self-stigma refers to the negative attitudes, including internalized shame, that people with mental illness have about their own condition.
  • Institutional stigma, is more systemic, involving  policies of government and private organizations  limit opportunities for people with mental illness.  Examples include lower funding for mental illness research or fewer  mental health services relative to other health care.

  • California ranks 48th in the nation for providing mental health support to kids 3-17 that need it
  • 75% of mental health issues present themselves before a      child leaves school
  • Auditor for California found that of 1,034 School  Districts found that NONE employed the recommended      minimum counselors, nurses social workers or psychologists

SB 21 Mental Health Awareness License Plate

SB21 (Glazer) would create a Special Interest License Plate for the California  Department of Education (CDE).  The monies raised by the sale of these plates goes to improve youth mental health in our schools, reduce stigma and raise awareness.
