California Mental Health Awareness License Plate

The California Department of Education is submitting the application for the Mental Health Awareness License Plate. Please join us in supporting the movement to bring Mental Health into the Light. Lets start with a traffic light.   All monies raised will go to supporting youth mental health in our schools.

August, 2022: SB21 Placed in "Suspense" by Assembly Appropriations Committee for 2022. Your sign up in support will help move this bill forward. The California Department of Education has continued it's support and is submitting its application to the DMV.

What are Wellness Centers

We MUST have  7,500 vehicle registrations from across our great state. These registrations will ensure that the application is completed and  create the License Plate

  • On-site physical location for students to go for immediate mental health support. 
  • Safe Place for students who may just need 10 minutes to collect their thoughts or a session with a crisis counselor.
  • Connects students and families to vital community resources. 
  • Students may access the Wellness Center directly by appointment, or through referral from a parent, teacher or peer.

Eliminate Stigma

  • Public stigma involves the negative or discriminatory attitudes that others have about mental illness.
  • Self-stigma refers to the negative attitudes, including internalized shame, that people with mental illness have about their own condition.
  • Institutional stigma, is more systemic, involving  policies of government and private organizations  limit opportunities for people with mental illness.  Examples include lower funding for mental illness research or fewer  mental health services relative to other health care.

  • 1 in 4 young people age 18 to 24 have seriously considered suicide in the past 30 days 
  • California ranks 48th in the nation for providing mental health support to kids 3-17 that need it 
  • 75% of mental health issues present themselves before a      child leaves school
  • Auditor for California found that of 1,034 School  Districts found that NONE employed the recommended      minimum counselors, nurses social workers or psychologists
